Following a tip-off, police conducted a search at an address in Haspolat, Nicosia, and discovered illegal drugs. The homeowner, Z.B., and A.S.G., who was seen acting suspiciously at the scene and found with drugs in his vehicle, were arrested. Both suspects were brought before the court yesterday, and an additional 3 days of detention were granted.
A police officer stated that on September 4, 2025, a team from the Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Directorate conducted a search of Z.B.’s residence in the Haspolat area. During the search, police stated that they found a partially burnt cigarette believed to contain synthetic cannabinoid-type drugs mixed with tobacco, and approximately 15 grams of synthetic cannabinoid-type substance in the suspect’s room. Police noted that suspect Z.B. was arrested at the scene for being caught in the act.
The police officer said that during the search, a person acting suspiciously in vehicle with license plate EY 280, parked in front of the suspect’s residence, was noticed. Police stated that the teams checked the person, identified as A.S.G., and found approximately 3 grams of synthetic cannabinoid-type drugs on him. Police announced that the substance was taken as evidence and A.S.G. was also arrested for being caught in the act, according to the court.
Police stated that statements have not been taken from either suspect and that the seized substances will be sent to the State Chemical Laboratory for analysis. The police officer also stated that the investigation into who supplied the substances to the suspects and how is ongoing.
The police officer stated that the investigation is still in its early stages and that there are statements to be taken and analyses to be carried out, requesting that the suspects be detained for three days.
The court approved the request and ordered that Z.B. and A.S.G. be held in police custody for three days for investigation purposes.
